Stuffed Animal Sleep-Over

January 22, 4:30 pm // Rochester Public Library // Free

Stuffed animals alone in the library overnight?? Who knows what adventures they will have! Bring your kids and their stuffed animals to a special storytime on Friday at 4:30pm. Come back on Saturday morning to pick up the stuffed pal. All stuffed animals will leave with a special photo memory book of their overnight library adventures. (One stuffed pal per child, please)

Beginning Cross-County Skiing @ Oxbow

January 23, 6:00 pm // Chester Woods // $5-$25 (details below)

Meet at the boat ramp kiosk for an evening of snowshoeing through the park. The full moon will hopefully light our way. Dress for the weather and bring your snowshoes. A $5.00 daily or $25.00 annual vehicle pass is required to enter Chester Woods Park. Programs may be cancelled due to inclement weather. I Tried It!

 Join park staff for a beautiful ski through the Oxbow Valley. Bring your own skis or rent skis for $5.00 from Oxbow.  If you have never skied, this is the time to start. Our groomed trails make the activity a pleasant and invigorating way to spend a winter afternoon.  Recommended for ages 6 and up. Snow permitting.

Kids Floral Class: Love Bug

January 24, 1:00 pm // Hy-Vee West Circle // $10

In this fun, hands-on class, kids will be making a ladybug out of red carnations and pipe cleaners. Meet in the Floral Department at 1pm – craft will take about 30 minutes. Register for this class in the Floral Department or by calling 507-292-6001. WinterFest is Rochester’s annual citywide celebration! The festival features lots of fun events for families and children. WinterFest is a fun way to celebrate winter and a great way to support local nonprofits. January Fun @ the Children’s Museum

Join in the fun at the Minnesota Children’s Museum – Rochester the last week of January!  They have fun activities all week long and especially on Friday (no school!)…Legos will be out all day!

Open: Wednesday 9 – 1 pm, Thursday & Friday 9 – 5 pm, Saturday 9 – 7 pm, and Sunday 12 – 4 pm.

Get ready to experience snow like you never have before! Bring your mittens, for a game of snow bowling. Then we are making snow candy, because we all love to eat snow. Just think how good it will be turned into candy. Finally it is time to snow create! You can color it, shape it, or adorn it for the birds – whatever you are in the mood for. We’ll provide the materials and (hopefully) Mother Nature provides the snow! The fire will be roaring inside and hot cocoa simmering whenever you need to take a warm up break! Kingdom Kids Carnival FUNraiser

February 5, 5:30 – 8:30 pm // Kingdom Kids Preschool-Christ Community Church // $.50-$10
This is a family-friendly event that inclues a carnival, inflatables, a bake-off, a reptile petting zoo, face painting, a silent auction and and Elsa mini show. All proceeds provide scholarships for families in the Rochester area that connot afford tuition. Tickets are 50 cents each, or a book of 22 for $10. You can purchase them at the KK office or at the carnival.
February 5, 6:00 – 9:00 pm // Quarry Hill Nature Center // $10/person
Celebrate Minnesota’s sparkling season and beautiful winter landscape. Enjoy an evening skiing by candlelight and the glow of the moon. After a good ski, warm up in front of the Nature Center’s blazing fireplace while refueling with cocoa and s’mores. Equipment is available on a first come first serve basis. All ages are welcome – equipment is available in youth and adult sizes. Event is dependent on snow and trail conditions. $10/person. No registration required.

Kids In the Kitchen: Valentine’s Day Cooking Class

Your child will learn how to make a fun “gift in a jar” mix that they can gift to a loved one for Valentine’s Day! This class is recommended for children ages 4 to 11.

Home Depots, Kids Workshop – Valentine’s Mailbox

February 6, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM // Home Depot – Rochester // Free

Join our hands-on workshop and build a wooden Valentines mailbox to hold all your child?s valentine cards from their favorite friends. After the mailbox is built, your child can personalize their project with paint. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. Children must be present at the store to participate in the workshop and receive the kit, apron and pin.

Okee Dokee Brothers

Don’t miss this opportunity to see the GRAMMY® Award-winning Okee Dokee Brothers live in concert, and meet them after the show! As childhood friends growing up in Denver, Colorado, Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing were always exploring the outdoors. Now, as The Okee Dokee Brothers, they have put this passion for nature at the heart of their Americana folk music and the ambitious Adventure Album Series.
In May of 2013, The Okee Dokee Brothers embarked on their second adventure, a month-long trek on the Appalachian Trail. They camped, hiked, met mountain musicians, and wrote the songs that make up their next CD/DVD for kids and families titled, Through the Woods. As a follow-up to their GRAMMY® Award-winning album, Can You Canoe, the new record invites listeners along for a journey full of camping, old-time mountain music and many miles of hiking! Kids Build – Workshop

February 13, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM // Rochester Training Center // Free

Sponsored by the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters, Kids Build events are two-hour workshops held from 10 a.m. to noon one Saturday per month January-May 2016 for children ages 5-12. At these workshops, kids have the opportunity to make wood projects, as well as build their skills and confidence. The workshops are limited to 30 kids each month, who must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Council staff and members will be on hand to help children make their projects and learn new skills. Projects may include the following: small bench, bookends, tool box, pinewood derby car, key holder/jewelry hanger, candy dispenser, planter or birdhouse. Tools will be supplied and there are no fees to participate. Children will be able to take their projects home to enjoy, along with a certificate of project completion.

Kanvas & KoolAid

Join Allegro School of Dance and Music for a fun afternoon of painting and dancing. Students will learn all about different types of dances and will study art technique with seasoned dance and art instructors. No dance or art experience needed 🙂 Ages 5-12 are welcome. Social Ice

SocialICE – Rochester Minnesota’s Ice Bar – transforms the Peace Plaza in the heart of downtown Rochester to an outdoor ice bar experience. The event generates an artistic and sophisticated social gathering place complete with lighting effects, music, the Walk of Ice sculpture garden, drinks, and more. Come to SocialICE and you’ll experience seven 12-foot uniquely designed and themed ice bars – each with a signature drink! This event is FREE to attend and open to the public.

Toddler Tidbits

Join us for this toddler-friendly class focusing on encouraging young children to try new foods! At each class, your Hy-Vee dietitian will invite your toddler to try new fruits and vegetables in different and creative ways. After each class, your child will receive an “I Tried It!” sticker. After collecting 3 stickers, he/she will be given a fun and creative healthy prize!
